About our farm

Indian Ridge Farms was founded around 1960 by Robert and Margaret Smith, starting with just 20 acres, a tractor, a plow, and a chainsaw. As they cleared the ridge, they discovered Native American artifacts, inspiring the farm's name. Bob juggled long hours, delivering shrubs in the mornings after an all-night job 35 miles away. During the 1960s housing boom, business grew, and they delivered plants in their trusty station wagon.

In 1972, the Smiths sold their first 200 Christmas trees, sparking a new venture. By 1977, they expanded, purchasing 180 acres of white spruce in Seneca County, NY. The Christmas tree and landscaping businesses thrived, with large-scale projects in West Milford spanning over a decade.

In 2013, we relocated to a 96-acre preserved farm in Wantage, NJ, focusing on planting and transplanting young trees. Today, we offer a wide variety of choose-and-cut trees, continuing the family tradition in Wantage.
