Indian Ridge Farms was founded around 1960 by Robert & Margaret Smith. They started with 20 acres, and a dream. They bought a tractor, a plow, and a chainsaw to clear the woods. As they plowed the ridge they found indian artifacts and the name began, Indian Ridge Farms. With plants growing, Bob would deliver shrubs in the morning after working an all night job 35 miles away, digging plants after work. During the 60's housing boom and business picked up, they found themselves delivering their shrubs in their old station wagon.

In 1972, the Smith family decided to start to sell Christmas trees, selling 200 trees in their first year. In 1977, the family decided to purchase their first tree farm, a large 180 acres saturated with large white spruce in Seneca County, New York. The tree business boomed as well as their landscaping and shrub business in West Milford, with most large scale projects lasting over 10 years.

In 2013 we purchased a 96 acre preserved farm in Wantage NJ and began the task of planting and transplanting young trees. We've closed our West Milford operation and currently have all varieties of choose & cut trees available for sale here in Wantage.
